“What is done in love is done well.” - Vincent van Gogh
Creating images for architects and interior designers is a challenge, it consists in recreating in only two dimensions the magnificent world conceived in their minds, for the life and joy of the space's dwellers. It is an opportunity to meet an unique environment that combines light, colors, shapes and textures. Uncountable materials and functions, all coexisting in harmony but at their fullest expression.
As a photographer, I first observe to find the creator's signature within the project, and only after I find it, I start working behind the camera.
"The Industrial Revolution was another of those extraordinary jumps forward in the story of civilization" - Stephen Gardiner.
When it comes to product photography is all about technique: a complete understanding of geometry, color, materials and textures; and how these factors interact with light and optics. For every work within this field, the selection of the accurate lighting system for the studio is fundamental, as well as the use of the lens that properly presents what the product's designer or seller is willing to put in the market. Alongside food and pieces or art (usually for catalogs and/or certification), product photography is at the top of the expertise scale.
"One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well" - Virginia Wolf.
Creating images for chefs, restaurants and publications is fun; but it is also an amazing opportunity to mix and match different lights, filters, lenses. Meeting the chefs and understanding their techniques and "architecture" is needed to recreate what they put together in the kitchen without sacrificing the most important twist of the photoshoot: food makeup, the science that curates the "look" of food and its syncretisms.
Imaging for fine art pieces is probably one of the most technical branches of photography: combining a perfect balanced lighting, normal optic, color calibration and the exact level of post processing. Even when more and more digital cameras are used to achieve these images nowadays; a significant amount of foundations, auction houses and certification institutions (for those pieces that lost their "born certificate" at some point) still demand film back-ups , either color or black and white slides. During the time I have worked for artists, restoration houses, galleries and private collectors; pieces from Jean Michel Basquiat, Armando Reveron, Alejandro Otero, Wilfredo Lam, Henry D'Anty, Bernard Lamont, Knip, Virgile Diaz de la Pena and Richet have been in front of my camera.

"Brasilia was an adventure" - Oscar Niemeyer. Interview at his Rio de Janeiro office, 2008.
In 2007 my first body of artwork was born: Registro Formal I Villanueva, a series of images done in black & white film, rediscovering Carlos Raul Villanueva's architectural heritage in Caracas. The same kind of visual work was done in several cities of Brazil, this time focused on Oscar Niemeyer's buildings (2008).
Other series have been created since these original two, most of them orientated to urban and architectural heritages; such as Lights (2009), Caracas ad hoc (2010), When velvet is worn down (2012), Forgotten Suite (2017). Others explore the realities where fine portraits and still lives belong to.
Here you will find a selected group of images from each of these series: my personal work.
